Sue's Struggle: Filling the Void with Food and Finding Recovery

For the first time in my life, I can wear clothes that I never could as a teenager- sure, and it's wonderful, and I love it.
Sue’s story is a heartfelt journey through the complexities of food addiction and recovery. As a child, she didn’t understand that her intense cravings for certain foods were a sign of something deeper. Sue recalls hovering around candy dishes and taking more than her share of holiday treats. Despite doing well in school and maintaining a clean-cut appearance, she battled with feelings of being grotesque and obese, even though she wasn’t.
The real issue was an emotional emptiness she tried to fill with food. Sue’s struggle with food wasn’t just about eating too much; it was about a lack of self-love and a desperate attempt to fill an emotional void. She couldn’t control her eating habits, couldn’t stick to diets, and found herself trapped in a cycle of self-loathing. But everything changed when she joined a 12-step program.
Through the program, Sue learned to weigh and measure her food, take quiet time for herself, and lean on her sponsor for support. Her transformation wasn’t just physical—going from one dress size to another—but deeply emotional. She discovered that recovery is an inside job, focusing on healing the emotional wounds that drove her addiction. Now, Sue lives with a sense of safety and self-acceptance she never had before.
She wears clothes she never could as a teenager and genuinely loves herself. Sue’s journey is both inspiring and relatable, offering hope to anyone struggling with food addiction.
