Shirley's Path to Sobriety: From Darkness to Light

Recovery sobriety is number one for me. I haven't got many friends because I'm a really private person. I like to get on with life, but the friends I've got are amazing, and when the shit hits the fan, as they say, I know they're there for me.
Shirley's story is a powerful testament to the resilience of the human spirit. Born in London to a dysfunctional family, Shirley's early years were marred by an alcoholic mother and a workaholic father. The household was a minefield of abuse and emotional neglect, leaving deep scars that followed her into adolescence. At just 15, Shirley discovered alcohol, which quickly became her escape from the pain.
Her drinking spiraled out of control, leading to dangerous blackouts and waking up in unfamiliar places. But it wasn't until she found herself covered in blood after a blackout that she realized she needed help. A call from an old friend in sobriety led her to her first Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, marking the beginning of her journey to recovery. In this episode of the Keep Coming Back Podcast, Shirley opens up about her tumultuous path to sobriety.
She shares how she navigated the 12-step program, found a supportive sponsor, and worked through the steps to achieve lasting sobriety. Along the way, Shirley learned the importance of making amends, prioritizing her recovery, and building a strong support network. Today, Shirley is in her best years yet, enjoying a healthy relationship with her daughters and a supportive community of friends.
Her story is a beacon of hope for anyone struggling with addiction, showing that recovery is possible with the right support and determination.
