Ais' Path from Teenage Drinking to Sobriety and Self-Discovery

I am a very common or garden alcoholic, and it really annoyed me when I first came in because I wanted to be special. I wake up every morning with untreated alcoholism and I have to reach for the tools instead of a drink, and that's the choice that I make every day and hope to continue making.
Growing up in a quaint Irish town, Ais found herself more at ease with books and adults than her peers. But at 14, everything changed when she discovered alcohol. What started as a teenage rebellion quickly spiraled into a full-blown addiction. By 16, Ais was skipping classes, smoking, and spending her afternoons in bars. Her first attempt to escape led her to New York City, where things only worsened.
Hallucinations and shaking became her new normal, until a therapist's advice led her to the doors of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). In this episode of the 'Keep Coming Back Podcast', Ais opens up about her journey from chaos to clarity. She shares how AA rewired her brain and helped her build a life that works. Her story is filled with raw honesty, from the struggle of differentiating between growing up and recovering, to the relief she found in AA meetings.
Ais’ journey highlights the importance of community support, honesty, and the daily commitment to sobriety. For anyone grappling with alcoholism or supporting someone who is, Ais’ story offers a beacon of hope and a reminder that recovery is possible.
