Whenever we get work, we're going to with our money, we're going to start doing ads going against just like big tobacco. And we're going to be petitioning to lawmakers. That doesn't work. I'm a free-loving, do-what-you-want American. But just like cigarettes, we treat alcohol just like cigarettes. But just like cigarettes, we treat alcohol just like cigarettes and we put labels on it and we don't allow the advertising to just like cigarettes where we're like, no, we're our kids do not need to be seeing that on TV, on banners.
Ever wondered how much of what you believe about alcohol is actually true? In this episode of 'Alcohol Tipping Point', host Deb Mazenor sits down with Dustin Dunbar, author of 'You’re Doing Great! (And Other Lies Alcohol Told Me)', to dissect the myths and misconceptions surrounding alcohol. Dustin, who overcame his own battle with alcohol addiction at 48, brings a unique blend of personal experience and academic insight, thanks to his PhD in psychology.
Together, they explore the deceptive narratives that keep people trapped in unhealthy drinking habits and the societal pressures that reinforce them. Dustin also discusses his role as a coach at WearetheAFR.org, a non-profit dedicated to helping others break free from alcohol addiction. The conversation covers a wide range of topics, from the impact of targeted advertising on our perceptions of alcohol to the importance of feeling safe around sober individuals.
Dustin's insights aim to reprogram how we think about alcohol, advocating for a cultural shift towards sobriety. If you're curious about the lies you've been told about alcohol and are looking for a way out, this episode offers a fresh perspective and practical advice. Tune in for an eye-opening discussion that challenges the status quo and encourages a sober lifestyle.
