I wasn't drinking vodka with my cornflakes. I just, you know, didn't want to wake up feeling like groggy or take chances driving my car home when I shouldn't have been driving at home or say things that I didn't entirely mean to people that I care about anymore, which is very easy to do. That's my choice. I wasn't a kind of like a urine soaked tramp, like living under a bridge. I mean, you know, but I mean, just because I don't want to have that glass, just because I don't want to share three bottles of Chardonnay with you now, you know, it doesn't make me a pariah.
Ever wondered what it takes to recognize and break free from problematic drinking habits? In this episode of Tribe Sober, Ashleigh opens up about her journey to sobriety, which began with a tumultuous relationship with alcohol during her teenage years. At just 15, Ashleigh faced expulsion from school due to her drinking. Fast forward to her 30s, she found herself creating and breaking rules around her alcohol consumption, a clear sign that moderation wasn't working.
Society often paints a picture that you're fine unless you're living under a bridge, but Ashleigh knew she had to step off the slippery slope before things got worse. During a pivotal workshop in 2018, she learned about the toxic effects of alcohol and realized that her constant tiredness was linked to her daily wine habit. This eye-opening experience led her to go 'all in' on sobriety, knowing that half-measures wouldn't cut it.
Ashleigh's story isn't just about quitting alcohol; it's about gaining confidence, reducing anxiety, and thriving in both personal relationships and her career. She also touches on the societal pressures and norms around drinking, highlighting how many people are unaware of their excessive consumption. Through her candid narrative, Ashleigh offers valuable insights into the transformative power of sobriety and the importance of community support.
This episode is a must-listen for anyone questioning their relationship with alcohol or seeking inspiration for an alcohol-free life.
