Quint Boa: From Film Sets to Sobriety Success
The human condition is such that if you put in a ton of advertising around booze, you can easily get seduced and it can easily become a nice thing to try once in a while, and that can slip in with certain preconditions which can lead into an addictive behavior which can have catastrophic consequences for the person and the people around them.
Imagine growing up with a front-row seat to alcoholism and then finding yourself following a similar path. This is the story of Quint Boa, who joins Sobriety Coach David Wilson on this episode of 'One For The Road'. Born in London in 1962, Quint's early years were marked by his father's struggles with alcohol. By the time he was an adult, Quint had developed his own complicated relationship with drinking.
His career took him through various roles as a film extra, actor, voice-over artist, and cameraman for popular shows like Top of The Pops and The National Lottery. But behind the scenes, his battle with alcohol was intensifying. In 1995, Quint made a significant shift by earning an M.A. in Psychotherapy and later founded a production company called Shoot You. Despite these professional achievements, it wasn't until eight years ago that Quint managed to get sober.
He shares the highs and lows of his journey, emphasizing the huge rewards that sobriety has brought into his life. One key takeaway from Quint's story is the crucial role of support systems like AA and psychotherapy in achieving and maintaining sobriety. He talks about how rewiring the brain to seek support instead of a drink can make all the difference. Quint also touches on the challenges of staying sober in social situations where alcohol is often the norm.
He suggests finding activities and friends that align with a sober lifestyle. Another important topic discussed is the impact of alcohol advertising on addictive behavior. Quint believes that heavy marketing can easily lure people into trying alcohol, which can spiral into addiction. Lastly, Quint highlights the need for mental health resources in workplaces to support employees dealing with addiction and other issues. This episode is a powerful reminder that long-term recovery is possible with the right support and awareness.
