Marianna L: Finding Peace After 30 Years of Sobriety

I'm content, and to me what content in AA means is somebody who is comfortable in their own skin as a result of doing the things that we're told to do on a daily basis, being there for other people.
Ever felt like life was constantly shifting beneath your feet? Marianna L. knows that feeling all too well. Growing up, her family moved around the United States and Europe, leaving her grappling with loneliness and isolation. Despite her outgoing nature and talents as an artist, writer, model, and actress, Marianna's early success was overshadowed by heavy drinking and escalating drug use. By 25, she found herself mostly homeless and utterly defeated by alcohol.
Moving to London didn't help; the problem followed her across the ocean. It was then that Marianna turned to Alcoholics Anonymous as her last hope. Since joining AA in 1991, she's embraced the program wholeheartedly, weaving its principles into every aspect of her life. Her journey wasn't smooth—she relapsed six weeks into sobriety—but she persisted. She found solace in attending meetings, especially those with other young people, which helped her form deep emotional connections.
Even after achieving sobriety, Marianna faced anxiety and panic attacks, issues she once masked with alcohol and drugs. Through the support of her AA community, she navigated these challenges too. Her story is a powerful reminder that sobriety is more than just quitting alcohol; it's about finding comfort in your own skin and being there for others. Marianna's journey offers hope and inspiration to anyone struggling with addiction or supporting a loved one on their path to recovery.
