People are made up of many different things. It's got to be a holistic approach. We've got to look at everybody holistically. We can't be selective because people aren't selective. I'm really proud to say, hello, my name is Debs. You know, I'm lots of things. I'm not just a service user anymore.
Imagine being defined by labels your entire life. In this episode of 'RAW CHATTER!', Vicky Midwood sits down with Debs Teale, a Lived Experience Mental Health Consultant, who knows this struggle all too well. Debs has navigated the often confusing and restrictive mental health system, accumulating so many labels along the way that she's lost count. But her story is one of resilience and transformation.
Through candid conversation, Debs shares how she broke free from the confines of these labels and began to craft her true identity, thanks in part to a serendipitous encounter with an art class flyer. This simple piece of paper became her lifeline, leading her to discover the therapeutic power of art and the concept of social prescribing. Debs' journey underscores the importance of taking small, meaningful steps towards change and embracing failure as a form of feedback.
Her message is clear: you are the expert of your own life. Tune in to hear how Debs turned her struggles into a mission to help others find their own paths to self-discovery.
