7 Smart Tips to Keep Holiday Eating in Check

So, as we talked about in the beginning, it's not about what you eat Between Christmas and new Year's. It's more about what you eat between new Year's and Christmas.
The holiday season is a time of joy, family gatherings, and delicious food. But let's be honest, it can also be a challenging period for maintaining a healthy diet. On average, people tend to gain about one pound per year, with most of that weight being packed on during the festive season. In this episode of 'Building Thriving Lifestyles', host Eik Gylfadottir shares seven practical tips to help you manage your eating habits without missing out on the holiday fun.
First up, Eik advises sticking to your regular meal routine. Eating at consistent times can help regulate your appetite and prevent overindulgence. Next, she suggests opting for lower-calorie drinks instead of sugary or fatty beverages. Water and other low-calorie options can make a big difference. Physical activity is another key point. Aim for 10,000 steps a day, whether it’s walking the dog or taking a stroll with family members.
When it comes to snacks, go for healthier options like dates, oranges, and apples rather than diving into the cookie jar. Portion control is crucial. You can taste everything on the table but be mindful of your portions. Smaller servings allow you to enjoy a variety of foods without going overboard. Don’t forget the five-a-day rule—aim to include five servings of fruits and vegetables in your daily diet. Lastly, practice mindful eating.
Pay attention to what you're eating and chew your food thoroughly. Avoid distractions like TV or smartphones during meals. The takeaway? It’s not about what you eat between Christmas and New Year’s; it’s about what you eat between New Year’s and Christmas. By planning ahead and making small adjustments, you can enjoy the holidays without compromising your health.
