I always say there's a difference between sobriety and recovery. And one is not drinking and one is like truly healing and finding joy and freedom.
Laura’s story is one many can relate to. Growing up with alcohol use disorder in her family, she thought she could avoid the same fate. But college introduced her to the allure of alcohol, and soon she was chasing that feeling by moving to a ski town. Her drinking escalated, and it wasn’t long before an ex called her out for drinking tequila on a Tuesday.
Instead of recognizing the problem, Laura hid her drinking, even resorting to consuming a friend’s expensive wine collection. Things took a serious turn when she was pulled over for a DUI, blowing a shocking 0.21 on the breathalyzer. Despite the police officer's warning, Laura continued drinking. She tried quitting on her own with podcasts and books, but it wasn’t until she found a supportive community that she truly began her journey to sobriety.
In this episode of 'Sober Friends', Laura, also known as @yoursoberpal on Instagram and TikTok, shares her candid reflections on overcoming alcohol use disorder. She talks about the importance of community support and finding joy and freedom in sobriety. Her story is a testament to the power of connection and the transformative journey of recovery.
