I just think we need to break down these barriers a little bit, but is this idea that there's a system that exists around how addiction is being addressed in our country and just by doing more of that, we will somehow solve it? There's this sort of business term that really, I think, is powerful. But in the early days of Phoenix, we were maybe didn't have the confidence in ourselves to set out a bold vision of changing the way the country's approaching addiction.
Imagine finding a lifeline in the midst of addiction through the power of community and fitness. That's exactly what Scott Strode, founder of The Phoenix, has done. In this episode of the Sun & Moon Sober Living Podcast, Scott opens up about his own recovery from childhood trauma and addiction, and how he has dedicated his life to helping others do the same.
The Phoenix, a nonprofit organization he started in 2006, offers free programs like yoga, climbing, music, CrossFit, and art to people around the world. The only requirement? 48 hours of sobriety. Scott believes it's the activities that draw people in, but it's the community that keeps them coming back. He discusses the importance of creating psychological safety at events and how shifting your mindset around slip-ups can make a huge difference in recovery.
Scott's vision for The Phoenix is expansive and inclusive, welcoming not just those in recovery but also their allies. His story is a powerful reminder that the solution to addiction lies within all of us. Whether you're in recovery yourself, supporting someone who is, or simply interested in the transformative power of community, this episode is packed with insights and inspiration.
Scott's journey from his own struggles to creating a global movement offers hope and practical advice for anyone touched by addiction. Tune in to hear how The Phoenix is changing lives and challenging societal perceptions of addiction and recovery.
