SMART Recovery loves to use acronyms. And these are the USA, the ULA, and the UOA. The USA is unconditional self-acceptance, something that took me a long time to get. And it started for me when I was actually in the 30-day rehab in Spain, in Seville, Spain.
Tanya MacIntyre's story is one of relentless determination and transformation. In this episode of the 'Red Roof Recovery Show', Tanya opens up about her struggles with drug and alcohol addiction, her repeated relapses, and the pivotal moment when she discovered SMART Recovery.
Recorded during the pandemic, this episode offers a raw and honest look into Tanya's life, including her time in a treatment facility in Spain and the eight challenging years she spent in 12-step programs before finding a new path with cognitive therapy. Tanya, a former broadcast journalist, made a bold shift from negative news to positive media, inspired by her own recovery journey.
She passionately advocates for a 'media fast', encouraging everyone to step away from the constant barrage of news to improve their mental well-being. Now living on the West Coast of Ontario with her husband Lance, Tanya dedicates her life to helping others heal from trauma and addiction through her work as a CBT Consultant.
In this heartfelt episode, Tanya dives into the principles of Team CBT and the four pillars of SMART Recovery, emphasizing the importance of self-acceptance and the power of words in shaping our thoughts. Her insights into anxiety, depression, and their connection to addiction provide a beacon of hope for anyone facing similar struggles.
