Ever wondered what it takes to create a sanctuary for young LGBTQ individuals? In this episode of 'Healthy Mind Matters', host Maria Shilaos sits down with Stephenie Larson, the visionary CEO behind Encircle. This Utah-based organization is dedicated to offering a safe haven for LGBTQ youth and their families, providing programs, services, and reduced-cost therapy. Larson's journey began with a stark realization: Utah's youth suicide rate was alarmingly high, particularly among LGBTQ teens.
This spurred her into action, leading to the creation of Encircle's first home in Provo. Now boasting three homes across Utah, Encircle is more than just a support network; it's a community. From friendship circles to therapy sessions, the organization aims to foster acceptance and understanding. Larson shares heartfelt stories of how Encircle has trained over 800 volunteers and received overwhelming community support.
She emphasizes that Encircle isn't just for LGBTQ youth but also their families and the wider community, promoting a culture of acceptance and understanding. Larson's passion and dedication shine through as she discusses the impact Encircle has had. The organization’s success is a testament to the power of community support and the importance of creating safe spaces for LGBTQ individuals. This episode offers an inspiring look into how one person’s drive can spark a movement that changes lives.
Whether you're looking to support the cause or simply understand more about the challenges facing LGBTQ youth, this episode is a must-listen.
