Navigating the Fourth Step: A Journey of Patience and Support
The disease tells you how to have a life. The fourth step frees you from that and in my experience, if you're someone who's identifying with me, meaning like the causes and conditions are as intense as they are, you know, the other thing I need to tell you is that you're probably going to need some medication and you're definitely going to need therapy. So, but again, freedom is on the other side.
Embarking on the Fourth Step in a 12-step recovery program can feel like venturing into uncharted territory. In this episode of the 'Recovery Crone Podcast', the host, with over two decades of sobriety, dives deep into why this step is both pivotal and demanding. She emphasizes the importance of not rushing through it, highlighting that it can take up to a year to fully complete.
The Fourth Step involves writing out your anger towards everything and everyone, creating what is known as a resentment list. Recovery Crone suggests using a Resentment Inventory Worksheet but stresses only to fill out the first two columns initially, leaving the rest for after you've shared your anger story. The podcast also touches on the crucial role of addressing emotions like shame and anger during this step. These feelings can be overwhelming, but acknowledging them is key to moving forward.
The host underscores the importance of connection and support from others, as well as considering professional help such as medication and therapy if needed. This episode isn't just about ticking off a step; it's about embracing the process and understanding that freedom and transformation lie on the other side. If you're ready to learn more about navigating this challenging yet rewarding path, tune in and let Recovery Crone guide you through it.
