Josh's Path to Sobriety: A Story of Atheism and Resilience

I want to always feel like, at any place that I go to, that I can find a meeting if I need one, that I could be welcome anywhere, that I need to find sobriety, and so I made it a point to go to traditional meetings, even though I had started to get this experience that when I talked about being an atheist and my atheism, I wasn't always met with like a welcoming sense.
What happens when you combine a chaotic childhood, early substance use, and a felony with a journey to sobriety? You get Josh's compelling story on the 'Keep Coming Back Podcast'. As the first atheist to share his tale on this show, Josh offers a unique perspective on recovery. Growing up in a tumultuous environment with teenage parents who were constantly partying, Josh's early life was filled with uncertainty and instability.
He had his first drink at just 2 or 3 years old, and it became a family joke that he was destined to be an alcoholic. Life as a street kid soon followed, marked by feelings of being unwelcome and living on the fringes of society. A blackout-induced felony eventually led Josh to Alcoholics Anonymous, though his initial introduction was through the prison system.
Despite his atheism, he found solace and support within AA, learning to embrace what worked for him and discard the rest. Today, Josh is an active member of his secular home group and a pillar of support in his community. His journey underscores the power of community, the importance of finding what resonates personally in recovery, and the healing impact of creativity. If you're seeking inspiration or grappling with your own struggles, Josh's story is a must-listen.
