Wes' Journey: From Despair to Sobriety and Self-Worth
Being sober is the biggest, the greatest blessing of my life.
Growing up in the birthplace of Alcoholics Anonymous, Akron, Ohio, Wes never felt like he belonged. As a child, he was overweight, poor, and raised by his housekeeper while his alcoholic parents were absent. Feeling unwanted and inadequate, Wes found solace in alcohol during the 80s—a time of fast cars, money, and a false sense of entitlement. College came and went in a blur of booze and self-loathing, and things only worsened after he married into a party-loving family.
The turning point? A Big Book of AA that mysteriously appeared in his bathroom. Wes found his way to the AA meetings and, with the support of a sponsor and a homegroup, began his path to recovery. Since July 5, 2013, sobriety has been his greatest blessing. Wes' story is a raw, honest look at the struggle of addiction and the transformative power of finding community support in AA.
He reminds us that no matter how deep the despair, change is possible.
