The book was a way of telling people what I've been through, and not to mention- I'm sure it's therapeutic- talking about it or writing about it, right, yeah, very cathartic, very therapeutic, definitely without, without a shadow of a doubt.
Imagine being the youngest player to ever suit up for Bristol City, only to have it all come crashing down within a year. Tony Kelly's life is a rollercoaster of highs and lows that started in the 80s in Coventry, England. Facing racism from white supremacists and skinheads, Tony found solace in football. By age 9, he was already dreaming of a professional career.
Fast forward a few years, and he's living that dream, only to find himself lost in the nightlife of clubbing, drinking, and partying at just 16. When he was let go from Bristol City at 17, it was a devastating blow that led him to London's semi-pro leagues. Here, his gambling addiction took root. Unlike many stories of addiction involving drugs or alcohol, Tony's vice was the thrill of gambling.
It started with peer pressure from teammates and quickly spiraled into a destructive habit that consumed his life. From spending entire days at the bookies to accumulating massive debts, Tony's life was unraveling. But hitting rock bottom became his turning point. Seeking professional help, he began his journey to recovery. Today, Tony is an author and recovery advocate, sharing his story to inspire others facing similar battles.
