Tom W.'s Journey: From Dry to Truly Sober in AA Recovery

The many gifts in Tom's life since sobriety are proof positive of the power of a spiritually centered and active program.
Tom W. hadn't touched a drop of alcohol for nine years before he joined Alcoholics Anonymous, but his behavior was still deeply rooted in his old ways. Growing up in a chaotic and dysfunctional household, Tom's early years were filled with fear and shame. His time in the army during the Vietnam War and his early career were marked by heavy drinking and troubling actions.
By the time he had a family, Tom's anger and self-righteousness had recreated the toxic environment of his childhood. Even though he stopped drinking, his life continued to spiral downward mentally, physically, and spiritually. It wasn't until someone suggested he attend AA meetings that he found a lifeline. In this episode of 'AA Recovery Interviews', Tom shares how embracing the principles of AA, such as regular meetings, prayer, meditation, and humility, transformed his life.
He talks about the importance of gratitude and the powerful impact of the fourth step in his recovery. Tom's story is a testament to the enduring benefits of an active AA program and how it has helped him navigate family crises and maintain sobriety for 27 years. His journey offers hope and practical insights for anyone struggling with addiction or supporting a loved one on their path to recovery.
