I say, and I've seen this work, embrace the power of art to heal. I have a program called Art as Self-Therapy, Wellness Through Creativity. And I've got so many incredible stories of physical healing, emotional healing, mental healing from people embracing their creative right brain that I'm just beginning to define it and explore it because I've seen it in action.
Imagine finding solace in a paintbrush when life feels overwhelming. In this episode of 'Inside Addiction,' host Luke Worsfold sits down with Karen DeLoach, an award-winning artist whose life story is as colorful as her canvas. Growing up in a family shadowed by alcoholism, Karen faced her own battles with sugar addiction. But it was art that became her sanctuary and lifeline. Karen's journey wasn't a straight path.
Her father's struggles with alcoholism left a lasting impact on her childhood, and criticism from college professors led her to put down her brushes for two decades. However, a chance encounter with a mentor reignited her passion for classical painting techniques, setting her on a path to not only reclaim her artistic voice but to help others find theirs too. Now, Karen is more than just an artist; she's a beacon of hope for those grappling with addiction and perfectionism.
Through her program 'Art as Self-Therapy: Wellness Through Creativity,' she teaches people to use art as a tool for emotional and mental healing. Whether she's mentoring college students or young people in Uganda, Karen's mission is to show that creativity can be a powerful outlet for overcoming life's hurdles. This episode is a heartfelt exploration of how art can be more than just a hobby—it can be a lifeline.
Karen's story is filled with inspiring anecdotes and practical advice, making it a must-listen for anyone looking to tap into their creative potential and find healing along the way.
