George Kalantzis on Overcoming Addiction and Life’s Toughest Transitions

So this is hard to admit, though I don't condone the way that things went down. And so I learned in the process that communication is key and you can't hide what you're feeling right.
What happens when life throws you into the deep end, and you have to swim or sink? George Kalantzis knows this all too well. In this episode of 'Sober Nation FM', hosted by Jonathan Sylvester, George shares his raw and powerful journey from teenage addiction to military service, and eventually, recovery. Starting with early experimentation with alcohol and drugs, George's life took a sharp turn when he enlisted in the Marines.
The military brought structure but also exposed him to harrowing experiences in Iraq, including the tragic loss of his best friend. Instead of confronting his grief, George turned to addiction, which spiraled out of control and led to legal troubles. At his lowest point, contemplating suicide, George reached out for help. Therapy and mentorship played crucial roles in his recovery, helping him process trauma and rebuild his life.
Now almost two years sober, George is a writer and coach dedicated to guiding others through their own tough transitions. He emphasizes the importance of community, surrender, and practices like breathwork and meditation in maintaining sobriety. His new book, 'The Toughest Day of Your Life', serves as a beacon for anyone navigating difficult times. This episode isn't just a story of struggle but a testament to the resilience of the human spirit.
Tune in for an inspiring conversation that might just give you the tools to face your own challenges.
