Jenny's Journey: Overcoming Opioid Addiction in the LGBTQ+ Community
When you share your story with us, we find tidbits of ourselves in it, and because of that, we also feel like we're not alone.
Imagine battling a painful knee condition and finding yourself caught in the web of opioid addiction. This is Jenny's story, a tale of struggle, resilience, and ultimate triumph. In this episode of 'Voices of Pride', co-hosts Kaylee Hoaby and Luke Miller sit down with Jenny, a two-time alum of Pride Institute, to delve into her journey from dependency to sobriety. Jenny's path to addiction began with a prescription for Percocet to manage her knee pain.
What started as one pill quickly escalated to 30 to 50 pills a day. Desperate for help, Jenny turned to Pride Institute not once, but twice. The first time was to get sober, and the second was to taper off suboxone, a medication that played a crucial role in her recovery. Since 2017, Jenny has maintained her sobriety, crediting suboxone, therapy, and the unwavering support of the LGBTQ+ community at Pride Institute.
Her story is a beacon of hope for anyone struggling with addiction, showing that recovery is possible with the right tools and support system. Tune in to hear Jenny's powerful testimony and learn how the combination of medication and community can lead to lasting sobriety.
