I've been in and out of three years. All of what you denied to yourself during those years, you've made up for in the years that you've been of service and so involved in the program since.
Steve R. has a story that many struggling with alcoholism might find all too familiar. He first got sober in the early '80s, but his path was far from straightforward. Over the next 25 years, Steve experienced five significant relapses, each stretching out for years. Despite these setbacks, he always found his way back to Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), each time with new reasons for why he slipped.
His journey wasn't easy—Steve managed to keep his job, but his physical and mental health took a severe hit with each drink. Several in-patient treatments helped him get sober temporarily, but sporadic sponsorship and inconsistent meetings often led him back to drinking. His story is a testament to the persistent struggle many face in recovery. It wasn’t until Steve picked up his fifth desire chip that he truly hit rock bottom and decided to surrender completely to the AA program.
With the unwavering support of a dedicated sponsor and a renewed commitment to sobriety, Steve finally turned his life around. His journey highlights the importance of willingness, compliance, and the incredible resilience of the human spirit. For anyone grappling with addiction or supporting someone who is, Steve’s story offers a beacon of hope and a reminder that recovery is possible, no matter how many times you fall.
