Starr Davis: From Survivor to Advocate for Girls' Safety

We're here to prevent the sexual abuse and exploitation of girls and to make sure that they receive the care, support and skills they need to thrive.
Imagine enduring childhood trauma and transforming that pain into a mission to protect others. That’s exactly what Starr Davis has done. In this episode of 'Patricia E Adams Live', Starr shares her harrowing yet inspiring journey from being a survivor of childhood sexual abuse to becoming a fierce advocate for girls' safety and empowerment. Starr’s story is one of resilience and determination.
Growing up in Louisville, Kentucky, she faced a tumultuous upbringing that included sexual abuse by male family members starting at the tender age of seven. For nearly two decades, Starr kept her pain to herself, not revealing the names of her abusers until she was well into adulthood. This silence, however, did not break her spirit. Instead, it fueled her passion for justice and advocacy.
Initially setting her sights on a career in broadcast journalism, Starr’s path took a turn when she met a prominent attorney in Atlanta. This encounter opened her eyes to the power of the law and the need for strong female voices in the courtroom.
Starr answered this call with gusto, earning her Juris Doctor degree from North Carolina Central University School of Law and serving as a Staff Attorney with The Office of the Public Defender in Atlanta for over five years. In her conversation with Patricia Adams, Starr emphasizes the critical importance of educating children about boundaries and preventing sexual abuse. She discusses the pervasive impact of trauma and violence on society and how these issues affect us all.
Despite the heavy topics, Starr’s message is one of hope and empowerment. She shows through her own example that it’s possible to overcome even the darkest experiences and use them as a force for good. Starr’s advocacy work extends beyond the courtroom as she dedicates herself to mentoring and motivating young girls, serving as both a resource and a beacon of hope.
Her story is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the transformative power of turning personal pain into positive action. If you’re looking for an episode that blends raw honesty with inspiring resilience, this conversation with Starr Davis is one you won’t want to miss.
