Tim's Journey: From Self-Deception to Sobriety

The big three were the lies that I told myself so I could perpetuate my drinking, and they were this: I wasn't drinking in the morning because, lord knows, if you drink in the morning, you're an alcoholic. No matter what happened, I was always able to pull those three out and dust them off and go.
Imagine growing up as the youngest of four kids, always feeling like you're in the shadows. That's where Tim's story begins. In this episode of the Oct-sober Recovery Podcast, host AJ Butler sits down with Tim to unravel his unique path to sobriety. Tim opens up about how he used humor to cope with difficult situations and the 'big three' lies he told himself to justify his drinking habits. One of these lies?
Convincing himself he wasn't an alcoholic because he didn't drink in the morning. But the story doesn't end there. Tim dives into what recovery truly means to him, emphasizing the importance of community and mentorship. He shares how changing his perspective and unlearning negative beliefs played a crucial role in his journey. AJ and Tim also discuss the fine line between a slip and a relapse, and how even when we're not drinking, alcohol can still call the shots.
They explore the significance of asking for help and staying grounded in reality. If you're on a journey to sobriety or supporting someone who is, Tim's insights offer a refreshing and honest look at the challenges and triumphs of recovery.
