Rita's Journey: Overcoming Sex and Love Addiction on Sober Sisters Talk

I suffer from addiction to sex, love, relationship, fantasy, romance and codependency. It took me that long to see this addiction and at that time the addiction manifested as three sober monogamous relationships with members of the program and always having sex first and then after the honeymoon.
Addiction can take many forms, and Rita's story is a powerful example of this. In this episode of 'Sober Sisters Talk', hosts M.G. and Elizabeth Pudwill welcome Rita from Canada, who opens up about her struggle with sex and love addiction. Rita's journey is a testament to the complexities of addiction and the strength required to overcome it. Rita's addiction wasn't just about substances; it extended to relationships, fantasy, and codependency.
She shares how her addiction manifested through three sober monogamous relationships within her recovery program. Each time, the initial sexual attraction would fade after the honeymoon phase, revealing deeper issues. Rita's story highlights how addiction can be hidden in plain sight and often takes time to recognize. Despite these challenges, Rita's path to sobriety is truly inspiring.
She celebrates her sobriety from alcohol and medication every March 15th, adhering to strict bottom line behaviors like avoiding seductive talk and abstaining from sex in a committed relationship for six months. Rita remains committed to monogamy, even though she had to educate herself about polyamory along the way. A significant part of Rita's recovery involves spiritual practices. She dedicates time to yoga, meditation, and silent retreats at local monasteries.
These practices help her stay grounded and connected to her higher power, providing a solid foundation for her sobriety. The holidays can be particularly tough for those battling addiction, and Rita is no exception. She discusses how this time of year triggers family issues and sadness but emphasizes that her commitment to the program helps her navigate these emotional waters. Rita's story is not just about the struggles of addiction but also about the resilience and dedication needed for recovery.
Her experiences offer valuable insights and hope for anyone facing similar challenges. Tune in to 'Sober Sisters Talk' to hear Rita's compelling story and find inspiration in her journey towards sobriety.
