Tim Ryan's Path from Addiction to Advocacy: A Story of Resilience

Never give up, and don't give up on yourself. No judgment or shame, but instead comes the laughter of a good friend who gets it.
Tim Ryan had it all—a lucrative career, a beautiful home, and a loving family. But his life took a dark turn when his casual drinking and drug use escalated into a full-blown heroin addiction. Spending nearly $500 a day on his habit, Tim's life spiraled out of control, leading to multiple overdoses, rehab stints, and even jail time. His story, shared on The SHAIR Recovery Podcast with host Omar Pinto, is a gripping tale of downfall and redemption.
Sentenced to seven years in prison, Tim found sobriety behind bars. But life outside was no easier. His wife divorced him, and tragically, his son Nick, whom he had introduced to heroin, continued to struggle with addiction. Despite these setbacks, Tim emerged from prison after 14 months with a renewed sense of purpose. He founded the A Man in Recovery Foundation to help others battling addiction.
In this episode, Tim opens up about his harrowing journey and the lessons he's learned along the way. He stresses the importance of community support and compassion in recovery, and how sharing your story can be a powerful tool for healing. Tim's experience underscores the need to address the root causes of addiction and the challenges of rebuilding a life from scratch.
If you or someone you know is grappling with addiction, Tim's story offers a beacon of hope and a reminder that recovery is possible.
