It's nice to have a catch-all reason. Any other time I've thought 'why do I do this or not do this?', any explanation other than that's always had a shaky foundation, you go 'no, I don't think that applies', whereas with this, I looked and when I read the more accurate accounts from people with it, not like these crazy rain man medical accounts from the 90s, I was like 'no, that is kind of me'. Can't find a loophole in it.
Ever wondered how a diagnosis can shake up your entire sense of self? In this episode, Emily Laing sits down with comedian Pierre Novellie to chat about the rollercoaster ride of receiving a formal diagnosis. Pierre shares a poignant story about stumbling upon a book in a cafe that felt like it was written about his life, leading to an existential moment where he questioned everything he thought he knew about himself.
This episode isn't just about the diagnosis; it's about the journey to accepting it and how it impacts every facet of life, including his stand-up comedy routines. Pierre talks openly about the challenges of adapting his comedy to fit his neurotype and the societal stigma that often comes with such disclosures. The conversation also dives into the complexities of autism and the importance of self-acceptance.
Wrapping up on a lighter note, guests share what they're grateful for, reminding us all to find joy in the little things. If you're navigating your own diagnosis or supporting someone who is, this episode offers a blend of humor, honesty, and heartfelt advice.
