Healing Beyond Addiction: Tara Moreno-Wallen's Recovery Reiki Journey

It's a myriad of things, but it's really to cultivate that light and to honor it and to continuously self-examination...
What if healing from addiction could involve more than just traditional methods? In this episode of the 'Recovery Matters Podcast', Tara Moreno-Wallen, a woman in long-term recovery, introduces her innovative approach called Recovery Reiki. As the founding director of Serenity House Communities and co-owner of Green Tara Holistics, Tara has trained over 100 people in Usui Reiki and developed a holistic healing method that goes beyond the conventional.
Recovery Reiki incorporates energy medicine, inner child healing, meditation, gut health, and crystal healing, aiming to address the whole person rather than just the symptoms of addiction. The conversation kicks off with an insightful discussion about what a Recovery Community Organization (RCO) is. CCAR, the host organization, aims to create a world where the power, hope, and healing of recovery are fully embraced.
The hosts and guests share their stories and engage in real conversations that push us toward that vision. Tara emphasizes the critical role trauma plays in addiction and recovery. She believes trauma is often overlooked but is crucial to understand when addressing addiction. She describes trauma as an excavation of past experiences that leave emotional residues affecting how we function in the world.
Tara argues that sometimes, traditional recovery programs aren't enough; a multifaceted approach is necessary to truly cultivate inner light and foster continuous self-examination. Throughout the episode, Tara shares her personal journey. Growing up in a home marred by domestic violence, drug use, and mental health issues, she managed to find her center. Her transformative experiences with addiction led her to develop Recovery Reiki.
She recounts hitting rock bottom after the birth of her daughter, which became a turning point in her life. The episode also explores Tara's creative endeavors and advocacy work. She recently participated in an exhibit with Families Against Narcotics, photographing individuals in recovery against murals from artists worldwide. Tara's whole-person approach to healing is detailed in her newly published manual and workbook for Recovery Reiki.
Her story is one of self-discovery and ongoing growth, proving that the joy truly lies in the journey. Tune in to hear Tara Moreno-Wallen's unique perspective on healing and discover how Recovery Reiki could offer new pathways to recovery.
