Pride is Selfish: Embracing Your Unique Journey
As humans, our brains are hardwired to protect ourselves from danger. My priority was survival, and as a child, I wasn't given what I needed, and I needed to prioritize survival because of that, and I'm now learning that I need to let go of some of these coping mechanisms that have evolved from an absolute necessity to being useful to now being useless.
What does it mean to truly embrace who you are? In this special episode of 'This Little Light of Mine', James Powell dives into the inner journey of pride and self-ownership. As a Gay Christian who grew up in the Evangelical church, James knows firsthand the pain of being told he couldn't love. But through his reflections, he reveals that pride isn't just an LGBTQ+ experience; it's a universal journey towards understanding and owning who we are at our core.
James challenges listeners to ask themselves, 'Am I proud of how I'm showing up in the world?' It's a question that might seem simple but is often far from easy. He acknowledges that the path to self-ownership and growth can be messy, uncomfortable, and sometimes lonely. Yet, it's a necessary step in breaking down the barriers and systems of oppression that affect marginalized communities.
As we enter another season of Pride, James encourages everyone to practice self-love and celebrate their unique selves. He believes that this ongoing journey of growth calls for letting go of old patterns and sometimes even leaving people behind. It's about evolving into who you were meant to be, not fitting into someone else's mold. James's message is clear: no matter your background or experiences, you are wanted and needed.
This episode is a call to embrace your beautifully unique self and continue striving for true diversity and inclusion. Tune in to hear more about James's personal journey and how you can start or continue your own path towards self-ownership.
