Recovery schools actually do work. We have data and we're collecting data to show the efficacy of recovery schools. I know just through my own work at PEAS Academy at the Association of Recovery Schools, it's an amazing support network that the board, and I'm not saying this just because, serve on it now, but that's one of the reasons why I serve on it because it's just like, they provided me so much support in so many different ways and, and were willing to help and provided these standards and even in an accreditation that it's really, there's an amazing professional organization, um, that is there to serve the communities.
What does it take to build a supportive community for those battling addiction? In this episode of 'Recovery Talk', you'll hear from three incredible guests who are making waves in the field of peer recovery. Brandy Anderson-Willis, Bailey Helgeson, and Mike Durschlag share their unique experiences and the innovative approaches they’re using to foster recovery-friendly environments.
Brandy, as the Peer Development Manager for the Indiana Association of Peer Recovery Support Services, sheds light on her role in helping organizations implement recovery coaches. She talks about the impact these coaches have on individuals seeking recovery and how they can change lives. Bailey, working with the Roanoke Valley Collective Response, discusses the collective impact model and its significance in creating supportive environments for young people in high school and middle school.
Her insights reveal how crucial it is to provide recovery-focused spaces for younger generations. Mike, leading PEAS Academy, the longest-running recovery high school in the country, delves into the effectiveness of recovery schools. He also highlights the challenges faced within the public school system when it comes to supporting students in recovery.
