Starting Fresh: Gabri Augello's Journey to Her First Sober Job

My only thought always was: you know, after work, how am I going to, you know, get this drink? I was so tunnel visioned on that that, once you know that was eliminated. And so it was a real, you know, confidence booster when I did get to my job and I was seeing those victories and you know, my focus really was on the job instead of you know all these other factors.
Starting a new job is always nerve-wracking, but doing it while in early recovery? That’s a whole different ball game. In this episode of The Recovered Life Show, Gabri Augello opens up about her experience tackling her first job while staying sober. Gabri talks candidly about the anxiety and self-doubt that came with this new chapter in her life. She shares the pressure she felt to prove herself and the constant temptation to revert to old habits.
But through it all, she found ways to manage these challenges and come out stronger. Gabri highlights the importance of leaning on colleagues, setting clear boundaries, and taking each day as it comes. She also discusses the unexpected perks of having a clear head at work—like boosted productivity and newfound confidence. If you’re in early recovery and about to start a new job, Gabri’s story offers practical tips and real-life inspiration.
Her journey shows that it’s possible not just to survive but to thrive in a sober work environment.
