  • The conversation highlights the importance of eye contact, emotional expression, and the interconnectedness of the body and mind.
  • Nissen reflects on his work with individuals, including those with multiple sclerosis, and the impact of TRE on their well-being.
  • The episode provides insights into the transformative power of eye-oriented TRE therapy and its role in trauma healing.
For me, that was attractive because when I worked in the Danish Society for Multiple Sclerosis, as a psychologist, I only had three to five hours for each client. So I couldn't do long-term therapy with so many people. It was not possible economically. And then I started using it in Denmark with people with multiple sclerosis. So with many people, you were able to make the central nervous system more balanced and in this way decrease symptoms.
Ever wondered how trauma affects not just your mind but your entire body? In this episode of 'Brain Shaman', host Michael Waite chats with Michael Morin Nissen, a psychologist and TRE (Tension and Trauma Release Exercises) trainer, about the fascinating world of trauma therapy. Nissen, who has a rich background in body-oriented psychotherapy, dives into the science and history behind various therapies aimed at healing trauma.
The conversation zeroes in on the role of the eyes and face in understanding and releasing trauma, making it a must-listen for anyone curious about holistic approaches to mental health. Nissen shares his journey from his early influences to his impactful work with people suffering from conditions like multiple sclerosis, depression, and childhood trauma. He explains how TRE can help improve central nervous system conditions, such as spasticity and energy levels, by focusing on eye-oriented techniques.
The episode is filled with insights into how eye contact and emotional expression are crucial for overall well-being. Michael Waite and Michael Morin Nissen also discuss the teachings of Wilhelm Reich, a pioneer in body-oriented psychotherapy, whose work significantly influences Nissen's approach.
