Dee's Journey: Peer Support's Role in Mental Health Recovery

I had a peer supporter speak to me Years before when I was in crisis at the state hospital, and she inspired me to reach out and rediscover what recovery was to me. A peer supporter came to me to talk to me before I left, because I was pretty hopeless, and she shared her story- and this goes right back to what you were talking about before- how empowering just somebody's story can be for not only yourself but for someone else.
Imagine facing a mental health crisis and finding hope through the support of peers who truly understand your struggle. That's the heart of this episode of 'Recovery Talks', where Dee, Vice President of the Board of Directors at Montana's Peer Network, shares her powerful story. Dee opens up about how peer support was a lifeline during her time at the state hospital, highlighting the profound impact of shared experiences in recovery.
Montana's Peer Network, a statewide non-profit, champions the development of recovery-oriented behavioral health services, boasting a community of over 800 individuals who have walked similar paths. In this episode, Dee doesn't just talk about her journey; she also sheds light on exciting updates within the network, including a new mental health tracking tool and ongoing fundraising efforts for their Recovery Coaching Program.
If you're looking for a story that underscores the strength found in community and the transformative power of peer support, this episode is a must-listen.
