From Rock Bottom to the Boston Marathon: Matt's Redemption Story

Things have changed – I don’t react to things the way I would in the past. In the past when traumatic things happened, I would have used. Not today.
Imagine losing everything to addiction and then finding yourself on the path to running the Boston Marathon. That's Matt's story. Raised in Baltimore, Matt's life spiraled into chaos due to partying and substance abuse. He hit rock bottom, losing his home and ending up in jail after a relapse. But his story didn't end there. Thanks to the Helping Up Mission in Baltimore, Matt discovered a new way of living.
He learned the importance of staying vigilant in his recovery and found strength in spirituality. Church services became a cornerstone for him, providing a sanctuary where he could reflect on his journey. Running also became a crucial part of his recovery, offering him moments of clarity and peace. Determined to push his limits, Matt set an ambitious goal: to run the Boston Marathon.
It seemed like an impossible dream, but with the unwavering support of his friends and the Helping Up Mission, he made it happen. His journey is a powerful testament to the impact that community and faith can have on overcoming addiction. If you're looking for a story of resilience, hope, and the power of second chances, Matt's journey will inspire you.
