Liz's Path to Sobriety: Finding Strength in Vulnerability and Support

Your addiction looks for the differences between us and other people to tell us: you're not like them, you're different, it's worse for you, it's better for you, or whatever. And definitely my relationship with My-Year-Old daughter has changed immensely in This Last Six Months, which is huge for me because I want to be able to be there and be a great mom for her as she goes through her high school years, because that's tough for a girl.
Imagine realizing that your relationship with alcohol is more problematic than you ever thought. That's exactly what happened to Liz. Growing up in a family where alcohol was celebrated, she eventually found herself in a cycle of stops and starts on her journey to sobriety. Now, seven months into her recovery, Liz opens up about her experiences in this heartfelt episode of 'The Bubble Hour'.
Hosted by Jean McCarthy, this episode dives deep into Liz's struggles, triumphs, and the lessons she's learned along the way. Liz candidly discusses the shame and self-loathing that often accompany addiction. She talks about how daunting it was to imagine a life without alcohol and the mental space that drinking consumed. But she also shares how positive affirmations and self-care became her lifelines, helping her stay committed to an alcohol-free life. One of Liz's biggest strengths was her support system.
She married a partner who stood by her side through every twist and turn of her journey. Additionally, she found solace in a community of sober individuals who offered encouragement, even if they didn't know her personally. Liz emphasizes the importance of vulnerability and courage, inspired by figures like Brene Brown and Glennon Doyle, in her path to recovery. Her story isn't just about quitting alcohol; it's about the profound impact sobriety has had on her relationships and motherhood.
Liz reflects on how connecting with others who are on similar journeys has been crucial for her, showing that it's never too late to start living the life you want. Tune in to hear Liz's inspiring story and discover how she transformed her life through vulnerability, support, and unwavering determination.
