Liz Olszewski: Finding Healing and Hope with Horses
I think a lot of times parents have shame when their child is addicted. Every child that you help is going to have a ripple effect, because they're going to be able to influence others.
Growing up in an alcoholic home, Liz Olszewski faced a childhood filled with turbulence and loss. At just 24, she lost her mother to liver disease, a battle that left deep scars. Yet, through the darkest times, Liz found solace and strength in the company of mentors and horses. This unique support system inspired her to create Horses Healing Hearts (HHH) in 2009, a nonprofit aimed at helping children who find themselves in similar situations.
In this episode of 'The Addiction Podcast - Point of No Return', Liz opens up about her journey and the mission behind HHH. She shares how equine therapy, combined with mentorship and life skills education, offers a lifeline to children affected by addiction. Liz's program not only helps kids build emotional resilience but also teaches them crucial life skills like financial literacy and conflict resolution.
By fostering a sense of community and belonging, HHH aims to break the cycle of addiction and provide hope for a brighter future. Liz's story is a powerful testament to the impact of empathy, mentorship, and the healing power of horses.
