It's your own brain working against you. My brain was trying to be like, here, feel better. I think that's a hallmark of OCD and that's why the compulsions. Even if it's silly, like, 'Oh, if I don't...you know, this compulsion is insane, like this makes no sense. I rationally know that, but I'm so consumed and scared by this thought that I'm gonna do it anyway.'
Imagine waking up from a nightmare so intense it starts to control your waking life. That's exactly what happened to Allison Britz, who developed Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) after dreaming she had brain cancer. In this episode, Allison opens up about her life-changing journey with OCD, detailing how her fears led her to avoid certain objects, foods, and even clothing in an attempt to prevent her nightmare from becoming reality.
At her lowest point, she was left with barely any 'safe' clothes to wear and weighed just 90 pounds. But Allison's story doesn't end there. She shares the various therapies she tried to understand and manage her obsessions and compulsions, offering a raw and honest look at the struggle and triumphs of living with OCD.
Her candid recounting of her experiences is not just a tale of struggle but also a testament to the power of self-compassion and the importance of seeking help. Whether you're personally affected by OCD or know someone who is, Allison's journey provides invaluable insights and practical advice on finding relief and embracing imperfections.
