I think collectively, it's helped us move the needle to we all want to know more. I mean, again, similarly, five years ago, if I did a parent suicide prevention or mental health webinar, I'd have maybe three parents show up. So we partner with the California Department of Education and do suicide prevention 101 trainings for parents. So I think parents and guardians are ready to have this conversation. And I know the youth have been ready for a long time.
How do you get young people to open up about mental health and suicide prevention? Stan Collins, co-founder of Directing Change, has some answers. After losing a friend to suicide in high school, Stan dedicated over 20 years to suicide prevention. This episode of 'Resilient and Real' dives into his journey and the transformative power of engaging youth in mental health discussions.
Stan explains how Directing Change empowers young people to express their thoughts and experiences through film, making tough conversations a bit easier and more impactful. Imagine teenagers using their creativity to tackle heavy topics like depression and anxiety. The films they create do more than just tell a story; they help break down stigmas and encourage open dialogue. Stan's practical tips can guide anyone looking to start these crucial conversations, whether you're a parent, teacher, or friend.
