Kathy W: Finding Strength in Recovery's Many Paths
I had some major trauma that I had to start looking at in my life. And what I was doing is I was using all my addictions to keep things down, feelings down that I didn't know what to do with and I was scared to feel.
Kathy W's story is a powerful testament to the varied routes one can take on the road to sobriety. Growing up in a chaotic household, Kathy felt an overwhelming need to make everything alright, turning to achievement and, eventually, addiction as coping mechanisms. Her journey took a pivotal turn when she hit rock bottom, prompting her to seek help through Al-Anon and AA.
With 34 years of recovery under her belt, Kathy shares her experiences of learning to feel her emotions, prioritizing self-care, and understanding the deep connection between trauma and addiction. She discusses the importance of surrendering control and embracing the support systems available. Tune in to hear Kathy's inspiring tale of resilience and hope on Avalon Recovery Society Radio.
