Rediscovering Identity: Male Survivors Share Their Journey of Healing
I had often thought about how I would conceptualize my life to other people and after thinking about it, I have conceptualized it as a continuum, if you like, of powerlessness at one end and power at the other end, and then, across that right angles is another continuum called competence and incompetence, so that you now have four quadrants and in that quadrant down the end that's powerless and incompetent. And, if you like my continuum, I moved towards the powerful end.
Imagine feeling like a part of you was taken away during your most vulnerable years. In this episode of 'samsn's STRONGER', we hear from six brave men who open up about their experiences with childhood sexual abuse and the lifelong impact it had on their identities. These survivors, including Les S, Ryan C, Jarad G, Phil S, Lindsay G, and Matthew O, share candid reflections on how their sense of self was affected and what it took to reclaim it.
Alongside them, experts like Dr. Judy Cashmore and Shane Greentree provide valuable insights into the complex journey of recovery and identity formation. The episode doesn't shy away from the raw emotions and challenges these men faced, but it also highlights their incredible resilience and resourcefulness. From moments of extreme vulnerability to finding strength in community support, each story is a testament to the human spirit's ability to heal and grow.
The Survivors & Mates Support Network (SAMSN) plays a crucial role in this journey, offering specialized support and creating safe spaces for men to share their stories. This episode is a powerful reminder that while the past may shape us, it doesn't have to define us. Tune in for an honest, heartfelt discussion that sheds light on the importance of support, healing, and rediscovering one's identity.
