Janice K: Building a Life of Joy After Hitting Rock Bottom

Challenges, I guess because of my long time association with recovery and the steps and whatnot, challenges are just kind of an interesting bump in the road.
When life brought Janice K to her breaking point in Winnipeg back in 1970, she never imagined the path that lay ahead. In this episode of Avalon Recovery Society Radio, host Leanne Utendale sits down with Janice, who has now celebrated 48 years of sobriety. Janice's story is one of transformation, resilience, and finding joy in unexpected places. From a successful career and a loving marriage to extensive travel, Janice has embraced life fully in recovery.
However, her journey wasn't without its hurdles. Moving to British Columbia with her husband opened her eyes to the unique challenges young mothers face in recovery. The lack of support for women with dependent children led her to co-found the White Rock Avalon Centre, a project that gave her life new meaning. Janice shares how community, fellowship, and the Steps of Recovery have been pivotal in her journey.
She also discusses the isolating nature of addiction and the importance of finding purpose. Tune in to hear Janice's inspiring story and discover how she found joy and fulfillment on her path to recovery.
