Alton Voss: Tackling Addiction and Finding a New Path
I feel like you know, especially in- and maybe you can speak to this a little bit- I feel like a lot of times in the treatment industry, it's everyone's talking about: okay, well, how do we get you sober? But in developing that plan, I think that's where the huddle comes in place, right again, we both admitted I don't have all the answers.
Imagine having a promising NFL career ahead of you, only to see it crumble due to addiction. That's the reality Alton Voss faced. In this episode of 'The Sobriety Blueprint', Alton opens up about his tumultuous journey from the brink of professional football to the depths of substance abuse, and ultimately, to redemption. He reveals how a college injury led him down a dark path of prescription drug abuse, which spiraled into selling drugs and hitting rock bottom.
But his story doesn't end there. With the help of a friend, Alton found his way to rehab and embarked on a journey of self-discovery. He realized that he was more than just an athlete and that sobriety alone wasn't enough. Today, Alton is an outreach coordinator at Rockland Treatment Center and a motivational speaker, using his experiences to help others struggling with addiction. He stresses the importance of spirituality, having a solid plan, and staying connected with supportive people.
Alton's story is a powerful reminder that it's never too late to turn your life around and find new purpose beyond addiction.
