Frank's Journey: From Ireland's Pubs to New York's Recovery Meetings
I wouldn't wish this on anybody this disease.
Ever wondered how someone can go from carefree drinking in Ireland to hitting rock bottom in New York? Meet Frank, whose story takes you on a rollercoaster ride of highs and lows, all fueled by alcohol. Growing up in Ireland, Frank learned to drink early on, but it was his move to New York that really set the stage for his downfall.
Free from parental oversight, he plunged into a lifestyle of non-stop partying and drinking, finding enablers along the way who kept the drinks flowing. But this wasn't a tale of endless fun. Frank's excessive drinking led him to near pennilessness and a drastic personality change, turning him from a 'happy drunk' to someone who was depressed and mean. Despite several attempts at sobriety through a twelve-step program, Frank experienced relapses that made his journey even more challenging.
One significant relapse happened after a funeral, leading to over six years of what he calls 'party living'. However, Frank didn't give up. His story is one of perseverance and resilience, highlighting the harsh realities of addiction but also the hope that recovery brings.
