I think it was about time that someone created a project to give a voice to the survivors of Bob Jones University and to also expose the university for a lot of abuse that it has covered up and a lot of abusive leaders that they've kept despite people coming forward about things and just overall toxic culture of the place.
Imagine growing up in a world where every aspect of your life is controlled by strict religious doctrine. This is the reality Andrew Pledger faced as he was raised in a fundamentalist Christian cult. From a young age, Andrew knew he was different, realizing he was gay in an environment that condemned his very existence. His journey took him to Bob Jones University (BJU), a place notorious for its oppressive and abusive practices.
While there, Andrew experienced bullying, harassment, and even conversion therapy, all under the watchful eyes of college staff who seemed determined to break his spirit. His public denouncement of fundamentalism led to his expulsion in his junior year, but it also marked the beginning of his fight to spread awareness about religious abuse.
