But the love I seen with him and his kids was like, yeah, I got to get this guy on here, you know, because I have the same sort of love, you know, like we come from a shit place and we come from a dark place. And all of a sudden we have light, you know, and we have this light that we want to, we want to give to other people.
Picture growing up in a war-torn Lebanon during the 1980s, where every day was a battle for survival. This was the reality for Mo Hassoun. Faced with the constant threat of violence and political chaos, Mo also grappled with deep-seated feelings of abandonment and rejection. His hardworking parents had to leave him behind to find work abroad, leaving young Mo to fend for himself emotionally.
This sense of neglect led to anger and behavioral issues, culminating in incidents like stabbing a classmate who hit his brother. Boxing and rigorous training became his outlets, but they couldn't fill the void left by emotional neglect. Relationships came and went, each breakup intensifying his feelings of abandonment and driving him towards substance abuse. However, meeting his now-wife marked a turning point. For the first time, Mo felt genuinely loved and cared for.
Despite initially resisting help due to his overpowering ego, he eventually committed to the field of counseling to save himself. Fast forward to 2012, Mo graduated with a Master of Addiction Counseling and became the Clinical Coordinator for The Department Of Correctional Services. In this episode, Mo shares his incredible journey from the turmoil of Lebanon to finding peace and purpose in America.
His story is a powerful reminder of how childhood trauma can shape one's life but also how resilience and support can lead to recovery. Tune in to hear Mo's inspiring tale of overcoming adversity and dedicating his life to helping others heal.
