Surviving Trauma: Acacia Moon's Road to Sobriety

It actually makes you pretty fucking strong to admit that you need help.
Have you ever wondered how someone can turn their life around after enduring unimaginable hardships? In this episode of the Sobertown Podcast, King13 sits down with Acacia Moon, a woman whose journey from trauma to sobriety is nothing short of inspiring. Acacia, one of six children, faced a tumultuous childhood after her mother left when she was just six years old, leaving her to be raised by her grandparents while her father remained mostly absent.
Her teenage years were marked by physical and sexual assaults, leading her to start drinking at the age of 14 as a way to cope with the pain and neglect she felt. Acacia’s story doesn't stop at her early struggles. She found herself in controlling relationships that made her feel worthless and constantly placed herself in dangerous situations. Despite these challenges, she had moments where she felt protected, almost as if angels were watching over her.
It was during these dark times that she met her now-husband. Their relationship wasn't easy; they battled through trust issues while she continued to drink. However, Acacia reached a turning point where she decided that her destructive behavior had to end. Throughout the episode, Acacia candidly shares how she navigated the rocky path to sobriety. She emphasizes the importance of community and support, highlighting how finding like-minded individuals played a crucial role in her recovery.
Her husband's love and understanding were also pivotal in helping her through the tough times. One of the most compelling aspects of Acacia’s story is her resilience and determination. Despite the trauma she experienced, she never gave up on herself or her journey to sobriety. She learned to overcome shame and self-loathing and found a new sense of purpose in helping others. Acacia’s story is a powerful reminder that recovery is possible for anyone willing to put in the effort.
As she poignantly states, "It actually makes you pretty fucking strong to admit that you need help". If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction, Acacia’s journey serves as a beacon of hope and a testament to the strength found in seeking help and staying committed to sobriety.
