Dennis' Journey from 'Boozy Point' to Sobriety

This program is god given to me and it's a day at a time. It's about service, it's about the quality of my recovery and it's about the fellowship that we share together.
Ever wondered how a neighborhood nickname like 'Boozy Point' could shape a young life? Meet Dennis, who grew up in Brooklyn's Breezy Point, humorously dubbed 'Boozy Point' by locals for its heavy drinking culture. At just thirteen, Dennis started his drinking journey, swiping beers from the beach club where he worked and hosting bonfire parties for friends. By fifteen, he was raiding his family's liquor cabinet, hoping to throw even better parties.
But behind the fun facade, Dennis felt isolated, struggling to fit in both at school and at home. He often retreated to his room, avoiding family gatherings and social events. By seventeen, alcohol had taken over his life, leading to skipped classes and a downward spiral that followed him into college. The wake-up call came from an unexpected source: his bartender. This confrontation marked the beginning of Dennis' realization that he needed help.
He turned to Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), finding solace in the fellowship and support of the community. Through AA, Dennis discovered the importance of having a sponsor, who became his spiritual guide, helping him navigate the steps toward recovery. He emphasizes that sobriety is a daily commitment, requiring ongoing service and dedication to quality of life. Dennis' story is a testament to the power of community and the possibility of transformation, even in the face of deep-seated addiction.
Tune in to hear Dennis' inspiring journey from isolation to a fulfilling life in recovery.
