Alisha C.: From Chaos to 12 Years of Sobriety

I feel like this is a situation that happened and it was difficult in the time, and I had to learn how to get through it. And then, in some small way, these people did me a favor.
Picture growing up in a home where addiction is the norm, and chaos is your daily companion. That's the backdrop of Alisha C.'s early years. Her story is one of resilience in the face of overwhelming odds. By age 12, Alisha had already attempted suicide, a harrowing start to a life marked by escalating substance abuse and mental health struggles. Her teenage years were a blur of increasing alcohol and drug use, leading to a tumultuous marriage and eventual divorce.
Alisha's journey took a darker turn with three DWIs and a catastrophic crash that left her with a brain injury and legal troubles. Despite multiple stints in both inpatient and outpatient treatment, and even attending some AA meetings, Alisha couldn't break free from the cycle of addiction. It wasn't until she fully surrendered to a comprehensive recovery program that addressed both her substance abuse and mental health issues that she began to see a way out.
In this episode, Alisha opens up about the crucial role of willingness in recovery, the importance of building a strong support system, and the challenges and rewards of long-term sobriety. Her story is a powerful reminder that no matter how deep the despair, there is always hope for a better future.
