Carissa Daniels: Rising Above Trauma and Domestic Violence

If we learn how to do this a little bit at a time, it's like peeling an onion: we keep working and we keep building towards healing.
Carissa Daniels has faced more than her fair share of life's darkest moments. Growing up in a home marred by domestic violence, she found her escape in music and theatre. By the age of eleven, she was already making waves as a singer, guitar player, and songwriter. Her passion for the arts led her to a promising career in Contemporary Christian music, but fate had other plans.
After a music rehearsal, Carissa was stalked and brutally assaulted by a criminal who had previously murdered three other victims. Miraculously, she survived the attack, but her ordeal was far from over. A near-fatal car crash left her disabled, forcing her to rebuild her life from scratch. Undeterred, Carissa graduated from broadcast school and began working in radio.
However, her personal life took another tragic turn when she became a victim of domestic violence at the hands of someone she thought was her dream partner. In this episode of 'The Never Give Up Show!', Carissa shares her incredible journey of survival and resilience. She talks about how she used her skills in music and theatre to create a powerful monologue that brings awareness to the experiences of domestic violence survivors.
Her advocacy work has reached the floor of the United States Senate, where she continues to fight for better protections and support for survivors. Carissa emphasizes the importance of being informed and seeking trauma-informed providers, as well as the crucial role of maintaining a paper trail for protection. Her story is not just one of survival but of finding strength and purpose in the face of unimaginable adversity.
Tune in to hear Carissa's inspiring story and learn how she turned her pain into a powerful force for change.
