Jamie Cappiello: A Heartfelt Journey in Addiction Prevention and Education
I've learned that some people just don't even realize how dangerous and harmful drugs and substances and behaviors that lead to drug abuse can be. They just don't even realize what they're getting themselves into. So, through the prevention team and staff at COCA, educating them at the beginning stages of everything is so important.
Meet Jamie Cappiello, a fresh graduate from Alvernia University's Behavioral Health Program, whose dedication to helping those grappling with addiction is nothing short of inspiring. In this episode of 'Your Bridge to Addiction Resources', Jamie joins host Jennifer Kalker to discuss her hands-on experience and passion for educating others about addiction and prevention. During her senior year, Jamie interned at the Council on Chemical Abuse (COCA), where she facilitated an evidence-based curriculum called 'Too Good For Violence'.
Her work included teaching life skills and tobacco cessation classes, impacting the community in Berks County. Jamie also explored the parallels between binge eating disorder and substance use disorder in her Senior Honor’s Thesis, shedding light on the importance of early intervention. Throughout the episode, Jamie emphasizes how crucial it is to educate people about the dangers of drug abuse and behavioral issues from the start.
Her journey in addiction prevention and her ability to communicate effectively make her story both motivating and educational. Tune in to hear Jamie's heartfelt experiences and learn more about the vital work being done at COCA.
